FAQ’s

How do I make an Appointment?

Simply click Book an Appointment Here Button and follow the prompts.

Alternatively you can call 0449 991 561. You are welcome to discuss any questions you may have.
If I am in session you may need to leave a message and I will respond as soon as I can, usually the same day.

How long does a session last for?

Individual Sessions and Couples Sessions usually run for 50mins, ‘the therapeutic hour’.

What can I expect in the first session?

In the initial session I will ask you to complete a brief personal details form. My hope is to gain an understanding of what has brought you to MRC.

We will talk about any background information, your hopes, expectations and objectives for therapy. I encourage you to ask as many questions of me.

How many sessions will I need?

This is really dependent on the severity and duration of the issues you are struggling with.

Some relatively surface difficulties can be resolved in two or three sessions, whilst other patterns or issues that have been there a lifetime can take longer to work through.

My goal is to help you move through therapy in a time-effective manner and at a pace that is both comfortable and rewarding. The average length of the counselling process is a dozen sessions over the space of a few months.

Will talking to a male counsellor help me? Is it worth the effort?

Counselling and psychotherapy do work!

Whether it is support and understanding through a crisis or bringing about deep fundamental change, ‘talking it out’ with a professional can definitely make a difference.

Our society is becoming increasingly accepting of psychological therapy as more and more people experience the benefits.

Is there something wrong with me that I can’t work it out for myself?

Many people, especially men, feel a sense of weakness or failure when they seek professional help.

In actual fact, the human mind is designed to protect us from painful experiences so no amount of ‘self-help’ will resolve certain problems.

Allowing someone to hear your story is an act of courage and strength and in itself will help move you towards your potential.

As a male counsellor working hard on my personal development I know what it’s like to feel the fear and do it anyway! The rewards outweigh any kind of ambivalence I had back in the day!

What if my partner doesn’t want to come to Couples Counselling?

If your partner doesn’t want to attend couples counselling you are welcome to start on your own.

By attending you are demonstrating how you value the relationship and will gain perspectives on how you can bring new skills and insights into the relationship.

Your partner is welcome to join the process at any stage.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are NOT covered under the Medicare Better Access Scheme and there are no medicare rebates offered by the government for Counselling or Psychotherapy services.

You do NOT require a MHCP (mental health care plan) or GP referral
This means to access my services or book an appointment there is lower waiting times and your personal circumstances are not recorded on your medical records.

Can I claim Medicare Rebate or Private Health Insurance?

As you are not required to see your GP and gain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) to access and benefit from my services medicare rebates aren’t available.

It is worth noting, that you are not limited to the number of sessions I could offer you including the therapeutic approach , specialty or modalities as would be the case under a MHCP.

The session fees remain the same and there are no limitations to the amount of sessions you may have.

My counselling fees are set lower than typical psychologist fees to make counselling more accessible and affordable.

What are your fees?

Fee schedule is for face to face, online and telephone consultations.

Some flexibility in fee schedule may be available for those in financial difficulty. Please don’t hesitate to ask.

Individual Counselling $190
Couples Counselling $210

What if I need to cancel or re-schedule a session?

I need 24 hours notice to cancel a scheduled appointment.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a cancellation fee of the full price of a session. This policy is representative of the industry standard within the Counselling/Psychotherapy profession.

Please be mindful counselling needs to take place on a regular basis in order to be effective.

Ideally appointments need to be consistently scheduled and regularly attended. Missed appointments can jeopardise treatment and slow the healing work.

Rescheduling an appointment can be done via the online booking system.
Or you can simply message me or call me in advance and we can work out a new appointment.

What are your operating hours?

Sessions are available from 8am to 7pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and  8am-5pm on Thursdays. Friday sessions are available from 8am to 4pm.
