A good friend gave me a poem her partner penned recently. It seems to capture the essence of manhood.
What is a man?
I hear you ask ….
To answer that question
Is a serious task.
A man must be big
As big as his heart ….
To make it bigger
A journey he must start …
Strength he needs
When he has to fight ….
A warrior and protector
Thru the dark hours of night.
Strength needs compassion
to temper the steel ….
The power to bend
But the wisdom to feel.
Not blind rage
Or anger and hate ….
A true man is calm
And considers his fate.
To protect the weak
And the ones in his Life ….
Keeping them safe
His dear children and wife.
To be a rock
Of understanding and grace ….
To nourish and inspire
The whole human race.
Be gentle, be a giant
Be all that you are ….
Uncover your powers
And be that shining star.
Patient and kind,
Wise, helpful and strong ….
A man you can count on
Come, let’s sing your life’s song.
