5 steps to get closer to your partner

Many men become confused in their understanding of intimacy from an emotional perspective as they attempt to improve their relationship.

What does emotional intimacy really look like?

Emotional intimacy essentially requires a man to understand his communication and experience of love in his life.

This level of closeness is about being open and honest about positive and negative emotions and seeing the sharing of these feelings as an opportunity to connect.

Recognising your own needs when you’re feeling insecure and overwhelmed may provide some clues to the steps of communication required to attain support and  closeness.

I expand the theme of relationship security in another blog here.

The info-graphic below describes some of the steps to emotional intimacy.

The task here is for you to notice, check-in, communicate, reflect and solve (if necessary).

It is based on the concept of Emotion Coaching that enables close and supportive relationships between parents and their children.

These steps have been adapted for adult couples in their bid to become more secure in their relationship.

Spend some time discussing these steps with your partner.

It may help you both define what you need from each to get closer.
